Thieves crash into AT&T store and steal $10,000 worth of merchandise

At  approximately 5:40am on Thursday, a group of thieves crashed a vehicle into an AT&T store and stole $10,000 worth of merchandise.

The store is located at 12599 Biscayne Blvd in North Miami.  According to police, a beige Nissan Maxima crashed into the store, and a black Honda followed after with an additional group of thieves.  The group of thieves stole smart phones and tablets.

The Nissan Maxima, which has extensive rear-end damage, has a license plate number of 113 LEQ, and was reported stolen on Tuesday.  Police are still investigating the incident.

Key Biscayne man sentenced for drug crime and faces charges in fatal bike accident

Michele Traverso, 25, of Key Biscayne, was sentenced to 21 days in prison on Friday for a drug case in 2009.

Last week, Traverso hit cyclists, Aaron Cohen, 36, and Enda Walsh, 48 on Wednesday morning.

Traverso was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with bodily injury and driving with a suspended license.  Cohen and Walsh were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.  Cohen underwent brain surgery, and later died on Thursday.

According to Walsh, “We were cycling up the Key Biscayne bridge side-by-side, in the bike lane, having a conversation. We didn’t even see anything…Then there was a loud bang and the next thing you know I was on the ground and Aaron was 30 feet up the road lying on his back on the road not moving.”

Traverso turned himself in on Wednesday.  The accident is still under investigation, and Traverso could face more charges.

Miami Boat Show this weekend

Singer Whitney Houston’s funeral on Saturday

Fort Lauderdale personal injury lawyers of Winston, Clark, & Wigand are saddened to announce the funeral of singer, Whitney Houston, this weekend in New Jersey.

The iconic singer, Whitney Houston, will be buried this Saturday, and the service will be held at her childhood church in New Jersey.  The private service will take place at New Hope Baptist Church, and is only open to invited guests.

Houston’s body was found inside her hotel room at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA on Saturday afternoon just a few hours before she was expected to appear at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party.  Police have still not revealed the cause of her death, although many have speculated drugs were involved.  Results will not be released for six to eight weeks.

Four die in a crash near Everglades City

James J. Rosini, 66, William J. Rosini, 68, and Patricia C. Rosini, 65, all of Coal Township; and Deborah A. Korbich, 59, of Elysburg died a car crash near Everglades City on Wednesday afternoon.

The group was driving a silver Ford Taurus northbound on State Road 29 when they did not stop at a flashing red light and were hit from the side by a van travelling westbound on U.S. 41 east.  The impact caused the car to hit the guardrail and the van overturned.

According to Ochopee Fire Chief Alan McLaughlin, “We found three people in the car. They were all expired when we checked them in the car…We found one person that was ejected from the car and was down on the canal bank.”

 It is believed that the victims were travelling on vacation and did not know they had to stop for the flashing red light at the intersection.  None of them were wearing seatbelts.
David L. Dahl, 63, and Joanne Dahl, 60, of South Williamsport were driving the van, and were taken to NCH Downtown Naples hospital for injuries.

Man drowned in crash in Dade Lake

50-year old Gilberto Duenas passed away on Wednesday after drowning in a canal near Okeechobee Road after his vehicle was sideswiped by another car.

Duenas, his nephew, Dager Duenas Gonzalez, and his nephew’s wife, Ladys, were all driving southbound on Okeechobee Road in their Toyota when investigators believe that their vehicle was sideswiped near the Florida Turnpike Extension.

Gonzalez and his wife survived.  Duenas was rushed to Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah and was pronounced dead.  According to a firefighter on the rescue team, “The conditions were terrible because it is probably 25-feet deep and the weeds were probably a good 15-feet, so we were obviously tangled in the weeds most of the time.”

Police are still investigating the accident.  Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim’s family.

6 year old boy killed in Pompano Beach crash

Robert Glover Jr., 6, of Pompano Beach, was struck this past Sunday while riding his scooter by a car involved in a two-car accident.

Marcus Permenter, 28, drove his 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass on Northwest 5th Avenue when he ran a stop sign and hit a Toyota Camry driven by Chiledric Jacques on Northwest 8th Street.  After hitting Jacques and his three passengers, Permenter’s vehicle continued on to hit a fence, a parked minivan, a pickup truck, and six year old Glover.

The boy was transported to Broward General Medical Center and remained in crucial condition on Sunday night.

The accident is still under investigation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit.  Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim’s family.

2012 Super Bowl this Sunday

This will be New York Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning’s second time leading the team.  The Giants are on a winning streak now having beat the Atlanta Falcons, top-seeded Green Bay Packers, and second-seeded San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship.

Miami boy killed, mother and brother injured in pedestrian accident

Dagoberto Trevino, 25, of Miami, hit a woman and her two boys while they were crossing Southwest 268th Street and 137th Avenue on Tuesday night.

Trevino was driving a 1990s Crown Victoria when he hit  Donelle Griffin, 42, and her sons Jaheim Haddo, 8, and Ameer Blair, 7.  Blair was pronounced dead at the scene, and Griffin and Haddo were both injured.  According to police, they were not crossing the street using the crosswalk.

Trevino was not arrested because he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and had followed traffic laws at the time of the accident.  Trevino spoke out the following day, stating, “I’m sorry. I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me, but I’m not a bad person. I’m a father of an 8-year-old.”

Pedestrian hit and killed by a car on Friday night

A pedestrian was hit and killed in a residential neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale on Friday night.

According to authorities, Myron Kisak, 42, was hit by Robert Luna, 52, who was driving a Hyundai while he was walking on the 1600 block of North Dixie Highway.  Kisak was not walking on a crosswalk.  Charges have not been filed, and police are still investigating.
