Four die in a crash near Everglades City

Posted on Thursday, February 9th, 2012 at 5:58 pm

James J. Rosini, 66, William J. Rosini, 68, and Patricia C. Rosini, 65, all of Coal Township; and Deborah A. Korbich, 59, of Elysburg died a car crash near Everglades City on Wednesday afternoon.

The group was driving a silver Ford Taurus northbound on State Road 29 when they did not stop at a flashing red light and were hit from the side by a van travelling westbound on U.S. 41 east.  The impact caused the car to hit the guardrail and the van overturned.

According to Ochopee Fire Chief Alan McLaughlin, “We found three people in the car. They were all expired when we checked them in the car…We found one person that was ejected from the car and was down on the canal bank.”

It is believed that the victims were travelling on vacation and did not know they had to stop for the flashing red light at the intersection.  None of them were wearing seatbelts.
David L. Dahl, 63, and Joanne Dahl, 60, of South Williamsport were driving the van, and were taken to NCH Downtown Naples hospital for injuries.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the victims’ families.
